Registration for the 2020 Celebrate Aberdeen parade is now open.
The event, which will take place on Saturday, August 29th, recognises and celebrates the enormous contribution that charities, voluntary groups and social enterprises make to the lives of countless people from across Aberdeen City and Shire.
Last year, more than 4,000 paraders, representing 130 organisations took part in the event which travels the length of Aberdeen’s Union Street watched by thousands of spectators. In addition to third sector organisations, the parade also features cultural organisations, youth groups, sports clubs and music, dance and entertainment groups.
Registration is free thanks to the support of the business community without whose help the Celebrate Aberdeen events would not happen.
“As we enter a new decade, we’d like to see this year’s parade being bigger and better than ever before,” said parade organiser and Celebrate Aberdeen volunteer, Katie Aldred-Dow.
“The first parade took place in 2011 and the main objective now is the same as it has always been and that’s to recognise the contribution that these organisations make to all our lives. The scope and diversity of participants grows each year and we celebrate each and every one of them. We know however that there are many other organisations out there – large and small – which deserve to be recognised for what they do, and we would love to see them join us on the day.”
The Celebrate Aberdeen events are organised and run entirely by volunteers and planning for the 2020 events began at the end of last year. Since the first parade began in 2011, Celebrate Aberdeen has continued to flourish, and the parade now headlines a weekend of activities featuring live music and entertainment at venues across the city centre.
In 2018, Celebrate Aberdeen launched the first Celebrate Aberdeen Awards to shine a light on organisations and individuals that make an outstanding contribution to society.
